Spicy Fish curry (Maalu ambul thiyal)

Ingredients:

  • FishTuna fish – 1 kg

 

 

 

 

  • FishDried Garcinia gummi-gutta (Goraka in Sinhalese) – 8 pieces

 

 

 

  • FishPepper seeds – 3 table spoons

 

 

 

  • FishChilli powder – 1 tea spoon

 

 

 

  • Fish Garlic – 3 pieces

 

 

 

  • FishCurry leaves – 1 sprig

 

 

 

  • FishGinger – 1 piece

 

 

 

  • FishCoconut oil – 1 table spoon

 

 

 

  • FishSalt – according to taste

 

 

 

  • FishCardamom – 4 nuts

 

 

 

  • Fish

    Cloves – 4 nuts

Cooking:

First boil the Dried Garcinia gummi-gutta in water until it becomes tender. After that grind them.

Then add pepper seeds, ginger, garlic, curry leaves and grind them well until it becomes to a nice mixture. Subsequently add chilli powder, coconut oil and salt. Again mix them well for couple of minutes thoroughly.

Now wash the tuna fish properly. Additionally you can use some lime juice to wash them well. Then add above mixture to the fish and season well. After that keep aside the mixture for about half an hour. Then add cloves, cardamom to the fix mixture and add it to a pan.

It’s better if can add to a clay pot which uses to cook this in Sri Lanka. Anyhow if can find a one pan is also fine. Now add water to the pan until it covers the mixture. Finally cook this under low flame until it becomes a thick curry. Now your Sri Lankan style fish curry is ready.

Tip: Use this curry with Jasmine rice, grated coconut 🙂 🙂 🙂
